Taiwan’s tallest skyscraper, the Taipei 101 tower, rang in the new year with its annual fireworks display on January 1.
As per tradition dating from 2005, the spectacular display was launched from Taipei’s iconic 508-metre-tall tower.
Thousands of people gathered on the streets near the venue in celebration. According to Taipei 101’s website, this year’s display was the longest ever at over six minutes.
The tower’s exterior was also lit up with a display featuring the island’s cultural highlights like night markets and flying lanterns.
